Life in Lithuania

Expatriates often wonder what it is like to live in Lithuania. LCC aims to make the transition as easy as possible for all faculty and staff. The university helps take care of most of the logistical details so that personnel can adjust quickly to the new culture and work environment.

Accommodation

Whether expatriates plan to stay for a semester, a year or longer, the university locates suitable, furnished accommodations in Klaipėda, in accordance with the needs of each person or family. These accommodations are often rented suites in apartment buildings or private homes and are usually within walking distance of the main campus building. LCC staff act as a liaison between expatriates and their Lithuanian landlords.

Staff coming for summer programs are housed in the student residence halls on campus. Its rooms are are easily converted to meet the needs of a short-term stay.

Transportation

Although public transit in the city is excellent and inexpensive, most people prefer walking as a mode of transportation. Expatriate families sometimes find that purchasing a car while in Lithuania best suits their needs.

Language

LCC offers basic language instruction during staff orientation. In addition, Lithuanian language classes are available to all expatriates staying a semester or more. While it is easy to get by with very little knowledge of Lithuanian, most faculty and staff find that learning some of the language enriches their experience.

Worship

LCC's expatriate community numbers more than 50 members. Many expatriates and some LCC students, attend and serve at an English-speaking church in Klaipėda. There are many churches of various denominations in the city  from which to choose, some of which offer translation for English-speaking guests.

City and Recreation

Klaipėda is an historic port city located on the Baltic Sea. Home to 200,000 people, the city offers LCC faculty and staff a large variety of recreational activities. Visitors can enjoy amber-spotted beaches, eat at restaurants and cafes, or go to local theatres for drama, dance and symphony events. Opportunities to explore the community and experience Lithuanian life are endless.
